- Participants should take a common-sense approach to their personal security while in San Pedro Sula.
This includes, but is not limited to:
1. Liaise with the tournament organizers, local contacts and hotel concierge, for advice on the local situation and areas to avoided.
2. Limit any sharing of your personal information (email / mobile number etc) and do not answer calls or messages from unknown numbers.
3. Avoid discussing your personal or accommodation information or plans in public.
4. Do not use taxis picked up from the street.
5. Where possible, travel on tournament transport or taxis, busses recommended or arranged by a trusted source (hotel / venue host).
6. Where possible avoid interstate road travel, especially at night.
7. Keep vehicle doors locked, windows shut and valuables out of site when static in traffic.
8. Where possible vary your routine and avoid setting patters to your movements.
9. Always let a trusted person know where you are going, what time you expect to return and let them know once you are safely back.
10. Remain vigilant and leave an area immediately, at the first sign of trouble and go to a safe location.
11. Avoid walking alone during the day and any movement after dark.
12. Avoid low-income neighbourhoods.
13. Maintain a low profile and avoid drawing attention to yourself in public.
14. Avoid using ATMs in public places.
15. Avoid displaying wealth (expensive watches, jewellery, etc) or carrying large amounts of cash.
16. Avoid using your mobile phone in public.
17. Monitor local news and media to keep updated on the local situation or for events that may impact you.
